Overview & Highlights

Browns Bay Fisheries is a standout fish and chips takeaway destination tucked away at Shop 1/94 Clyde Road in Browns Bay, Auckland. This local gem exquisitely blends unbeatable value with mouthwatering quality, making it a must-visit for anyone craving classic Kiwi seafood comfort food.

The heart of their offering lies in their legendary fish and chips, praised by regulars for being perfectly cooked: the fish boasts a delectably crisp, golden batter hugging moist, flaky snapper inside, while the chips strike a flawless balance between a crispy exterior and a fluffy, soft core. This impeccable contrast in textures truly makes each bite a delight. For those looking beyond the classic, Browns Bay Fisheries impresses with a diverse menu that includes a variety of burgers—from the straightforward Hamburger and Egg Burger to the indulgent King Burger—as well as generous sides like homemade fish cakes, squid rings, and mussel fritters to satisfy every palate.

One of the most heartwarming aspects of Browns Bay Fisheries is the genuine friendliness customers consistently rave about. As Dave Lavelua shares, the welcoming atmosphere created by Martin and the team adds an extra layer of enjoyment to every order. Whether you’re dropping by for a quick solo meal or placing bulk orders for a gathering, the staff's warmth and efficiency ensure you're treated like family.

Jo Mason’s words perfectly capture the sensory experience: “Beautifully cooked snapper” paired with chips that masterfully balance crispness and softness, accompanied by an “excellent batter”, evoke images of a satisfying meal that triggers delicious nostalgia. Meanwhile, Janice Ho’s enthusiastic endorsement as “Hands Down the Best Fish in Town” highlights the care and precision in cooking that you can taste in every piece, complemented by delightful extras like the warm, sweet donut—a comforting winter treat—and well-paired squid rings.

Beyond the food, Browns Bay Fisheries offers the comforting feel of a classic Kiwi fish and chip shop with a clean, friendly environment that invites return visits. The combination of top-notch food, fair pricing, and heartfelt service creates a culinary experience that many say defines what a great fish and chips takeaway should be. If you find yourself in Auckland’s Browns Bay, Browns Bay Fisheries is a destination that promises to satisfy your cravings and leave you eagerly anticipating the next visit.

What would NZ be without places like Browns Bay Fisheries. Great price matches the fantastic quality of our order and not to mention the Depp fried Moro Bar?! Martin was friendly and a great conversationalist to the line of people there ordering. Great place for single to bulk orders. Highly recommend!

The BEST fish & chips in the Bays!! Beautifully cooked snapper. Chips that were crisp on the outside and fluffy & soft on the inside. Excellent batter too. So good!

Hands Down the Best Fish in Town! The fish here is cooked to absolute perfection, delightfully crunchy on the outside and moist and flavorful on the inside. Not a trace of oiliness. The donut is a must try as well - warm, sweet, and the perfect winter treat. The squid rings also paired wonderfully with the tasty sauce. Ignore the negative reviews, this place serves up some of the most delicious seafood around. Highly recommend giving them a try!
